Ready to turn back the clock to the Glory Years?
Lombardi: The Only Thing opens tonight (Friday, September 12th) at the Next Act Theater. It's across from the Milwaukee Public Market, the corner of Water and St. Paul (342 N. Water) in the second floor of the building. For more info, click here: http://www.nextact.org/
The play opens in a pivotal stretch of Lombardi's tenure in Green Bay. After winning titles in 1961 and '62, the Packers finished second in 1963, and second in 1964. After losing the playoff bowl to the St. Louis Cardinals on January 3rd, 1965, capping off an 8-5-1 campaign, Lombardi did a lot of soul searching. This period became the springboard for Green Bay's 3 straight NFL titles to follow.
I had the pleasure of checking out the final dress rehearsal. Click on the video link to see how Vince Lombardi, Jim Taylor, Phil Bengston and even local Journal Sentinel writer Bud Lea are brought to life by actors who did their homework and play and look the part to a tee.
Plus it can't be all bad, if Vince Vitrano's sister Emily is in it! Notice I said Vince Vitrano...everytime I said Vince tonight, people thought I meant Lombardi!
