I love what Cullen Jenkins said after the game about all the Vikes trash talk...you gotta watch out for the quiet ones. So while the Packers had to sit and here how the NFC North was going thru Minnesota, last I checked the Packers were still the champs...took it personally, and went out and proved it. One game does not a season make...but this certainly made a statement. Other thoughts:
How about Aaron Rodgers going 18-22? This after the Vikings Jared Allen talking about putting a helmet in his spine. And Pat Williams not saying his name, because he wasn't Brett Favre. And Favre getting a win against the Jets. Rodgers a pretty cool customer in his first regular season start.
I loved Rodgers response to my question about his first Lambeau Leap. Rodgers immediately smiled and said he'd dreamed of that for four years. And even though he was hoping for something a little more sexy, like a 10-15 yard run...he'll take it.
The reason why Brad Childress is 0-5 against the Packers? Can anyone else figure out why Adrian Peterson only had 19 carries? And in the Metrodome last year, he only had 12. You might want to get your best player the ball a little more than that, Mr. Noodle.
Is the preseason overrated? You might think that after Ryan Grant has 12 carries for 92 yards. A.J. Hawk had 10 combined tackles. And Ryan Pickett looked like he never missed a beat.
And the 3 phases are....offense, defense and special teams. We talked offense. But how about the defense, namely Atari Bigby, coming up big with the INT when it mattered. That's the sign of an elite defense...even if they don't play lights out, they make the play when it matters. And Will Blackmon provides the special teams TD.
Throw the flag: Now the one area of cleanup...definitely the penalties. Three in a row, and 5 with a 6th declined in the first quarter...unacceptable. The holding penalty before the 2 minute warning gave the Vikes another time out, and about 40 extra seconds to work with before the Tarvaris Jackson pick. That just can't happen.
