CAN THIS FAVRE STORY PLEASE GO AWAY?
MUCH ADO ABOUT NEXT TO NOTHING
When people in the public say the media overhypes stories, overcover stories, and makes people get sick of stories...I believe them when stories like this come around.
Now just like the Packers taking Brett Favre's locker out of the facility, can we just be done with this nothing-else-is-going-on-so-let's blow this out of proportion story?
Let's recap: First, the Packers decide to make Favre's locker a shrine. Not a wise decision, because it screams that the guy is dead, like Korey Stringer or Sean Taylor. And let's face facts, even though it's a nice gesture, many guys in today's NFL could care less about a guy's locker...they just want their bonus check.
Then ESPN picks up the story, overhypes it like they usually do, and on a slow news day, blows it up.
After that, the Packers decide to take Favre's name plate down, and eventually tear the locker down to ship it back to Favre in Missisisippi. And while I wasn't in favor of the idea in the first place, now I'm doubly disappointed in the Packers, because they bowed to the public pressure, which is totally unlike anything else GM Ted Thompson has done in the past.
There, I've already wasted enough time on this subject. Now let's hope it all goes away.
Please tell me, am I way off base in saying this story is tired, old and way overdone? Email me at lallan@todaystmj4.com
