Brewers Nuggets On Greinke From Melvin
The GM Shares As the Trading Deadline Nears
Sitting down with Doug Melvin, it's always interesting how the Brewers GM balances being very honest, with the ability to play a mean game of poker as the trading deadline nears.
Topic number one continues to be the future of Zack Greinke, but knowing that his contract only lasts until the end of the season, which could be 2-3 months, teams right now aren't willing to give up a top shortstop prospect for what could be a rental.
"It's different than when we traded for him. We had him for 2 years."
When asked about getting a young shortstop, Melvin said "we've tried for 2 years."
And as far as a deal, Melvin says "you come to a point, you have to be prepared to move when the time is right. My gut feeling is that as long as he's pitching well, and we're winning games, that makes my decision (easier)."
