The Lucroy Bashing Needs To Stop

Some Troubling Signs

I thought about blogging on this the other day when I heard some disturbing radio, and now I really feel compelled to speak out on the story surrounding Jonathan Lucroy and his broken right hand.

The bashing of Lucroy's wife, for breaking her husband's right hand when shifting a suitcase off the bed in their hotel room?

It needs to stop.  And it needs to stop NOW.

Threating or bashing Facebook or Twitter is becoming an ugly trait of some in our society.  And hearing a couple of local sports talk shows fan the flames of thinking that Lucroy was blatantly lying about this, really disturbed me and quite frankly ticked me off.

I don't know Lucroy well, but I know him well enough to know he's man of faith.  If he lied, that's between him and God, and he'll have to ask for forgiveness for that.  If not, shame on those taking his wife to task for a story that just might be crazy enough to be true.

Sure, it's my job and other "journalists" to question things and not take them for face value.  But to openly whip up public opinion when you don't have all the facts is down right shameful.

To hear Lucroy say metaphorically that "his wife is getting killed by this because she already feels bad enough that this happened" and ask that he and his wife "be left alone because this is brutal" really made me feel for both of them as humans.

It was an accident.  They are real people.  Let's quit the nameless and faceless bashing on Facebook, the pot shots on Twitter, and the rampant wild fairy tales on sports talk radio.  We'll all be better for it.
