Packers: Will They Feel A Rush In the Draft?
And Other Pre-Draft Nuggets
I'm still convinced that early in the draft, the Packers will upgrade a secondary that in the words of one team source is "getting long in the tooth and short on talent."
But the question everyone wants answered...will the team feel a rush, to draft someone to help out Clay Matthews?
I say they will pick someone early, but if a higher ranked player at another position falls, and I think another one will, they have to consider the future instead of the short term fix. It's the Thompson way that's worked so well so far.
Will Illinois DE Whitney Mercilus last to the Pack at 28? I say it's 50-50 at best.
I'll say right now I think G/C Kevin Zeitler will be the first Badgers OL taken over Peter Konz. Konz very likely won't be a first round pick, Zeitler could go anywhere from 23-43 and has at least a chance of playing for his home state team.
And with the Packers RB situation still murky, they could still look at Boise State's Doug Martin if he slips, or Washington's Chris Polk, whom Ahman Green told me is the RB that reminds him the most of himself...a guy who doesn't want to come off the field, and would punch in TD's inside the 20's.
