Packers the Pick of the Refs?
Any Truth to Brandon Jacobs Comments?
"They also had a lot of games in there where they should have lost. You know, they should have lost at least 4 games that we saw."
After the Packers press conference, my photographer Brian Ewig and I raced over to the Giants locker room. Running back Brandon Jacobs was the final player holding court, and I asked him that even though he wouldn't be surprised that the Giants won, a number of others found the win a little startling.
And then Jacobs uttered a phrase that I had often times whispered around the NFL, but never uttered on the record.
"They should have lost at least 4 games that we saw...just off of other teams turning over the ball, and dumb calls from the officials like they do to give the Green Bay Packers (an edge.) That's how they win."
I have to admit, I've heard other teams quietly hint that the "Lambeau Mystique" and the Packers success was sometimes helped by the benefit of an occasional favorable call, like the Greg Jennings fumble that was ruled, well, not a fumble.
So I'm asking fans and non-fans, is there any truth to this? Keep in mind, this is coming from a player who BEAT the Packers. Not a loser. So is Jacobs rubbing salt in the Packers wounds, or revealing a hidden truth that is coming to light?
