Lance Allan: Sports Glance with Lance

Packers-Vikings First Observations

Green Bay Mauls Minnesota

Overall, it's very impressive when a team doesn't play nearly its best...and still scores 45 points, and wins going away.  Winning ugly means this team is great, and right now has no peer.

The other paws-itive as Coach McCarthy would say is the defense.  They listened to leaders like Charles Woodson that this couldn't continue.  They heard the whispers that they could be the weak link.

Well, nothing like a chip on the shoulder to produce results.  Most importantly, just one touchdown allowed after a turnover with a short field.  And just 216 total yards allowed before the Vikings final drive, which was in garbage time...that's impressive.

Charles Woodson also continues to amaze me, because even though he's lost a step, he makes up for it in smarts.  The break on the near INT?  From film study, he knows Christian Ponder still has a hard time getting proper zip on the ball after a shoulder injury in college.

Now for the cleanup areas.  The offensive line without Chad Clifton doesn't look cohesive to me.  Marshall Newhouse has done a decent job, and Clifton is wearing down, but come playoff time, you want the 34-year-old veteran at left tackle protecting your franchise quarterback.  T.J. Lang and Josh Sitton have also been up and down.
