To put it in simple terms, Manager Ron Roenicke should address his team on Friday afternoon with one message.
"Men, we are in control of our own destiny. Win, and we're in to the postseason."
With 6 games left at home, 3 against the Marlins, and 3 against the Pirates, the Brewers only need to win 3 in order to clinch a chair at the postseason table. But now, things are getting tight.
The Brewers only lead Arizona by one game, Milwaukee at 91-65 with the Diamondbacks at 90-66 for the #2 seed and home field advantage in the first round of the playoffs. And my personal opinion is that the Brewers should do everything they can do to avoid facing the Phillies in the first round of the postseason, because I firmly believe they are the best team in baseball. Anything can happen in a playoff series, but I don't think it would be in the Brewers best interest to face Philly right off the bat.
At 91-65, the Brewers still have a shot at topping the team's best ever record, 95-66 in...no, not 1982. Actually it was 1979 when they hit 95-66. In 1982, they lost 1 more game to finish at 95-67.
With the Brewers 52-23 at home this season, that's possible. But it's time to win, and take matters into their own hands.
