I'm almost convinced that Packers GM Ted Thompson will make a trade, because of the Packers supreme depth. Maybe a TE? But if not, here's how I think the 53-man roster will shape up when the roster has to be in Saturday afternoon.
3 QB's--Aaron Rodgers, Matt Flynn, Graham Harrell
5 RB's--Ryan Grant, James Starks, John Kuhn, Alex Green, Dimitri Nance. I think Nance did just enough to stick. Quinn Johnson came in out of shape, and never made an impact. I think they go with 1 FB.
6 WR's--Greg Jennings, Donald Driver, Jordy Nelson, James Jones, Randall Cobb, Chastin West. Big wideout Tori Gurley deserves more seasoning on the practice squad.
5 TE's--Jermichael Finley, Andrew Quarless, Tom Crabtree, Ryan Taylor, D.J. Williams. Williams very well could "redshirt." The GM will keep his two rookies, Taylor will play on special teams. This is where Quarless or Crabtree could draw some interest in the NFL, and the Packers could make a deal to get a veteran backup OL who won't get Aaron Rodgers or Matt Flynn killed.
8 OL--Chad Clifton, T.J. Lang, Scott Wells, Josh Sitton, Bryan Bulaga, Derek Sherrod, Marshall Newhouse, Nick McDonald. Sherrod makes it because he's a first rounder with potential. McDonald noses out Evan Dietrich-Smith. Ray Dominguez and Caleb Schlauderaff, who could be brought back on the practice squad.
6 DL--B.J. Raji, Ryan Pickett, Mike Neal, C.J. Wilson, Jarius Wynn, Howard Green.
8 LB's--Clay Matthews, A.J. Hawk, Desmond Bishop, Erik Walden, Frank Zombo, Vic So'oto, D.J. Smith, Robert Francois. I'm not convinced Zombo goes on IR, the Packers like his toughness playing with a broken shoulder blade. So'oto sealed his roster spot by doing everything against the Chiefs. Smith has potential. On second thought, Francois is versatile and has a year of experience in the defense. I think they bring Jamari Lattimore back on the practice squad to beef up for a year.
9 DB's--Charles Woodson, Tramon Williams, Nick Collins, Morgan Burnett, Sam Shields, Charlie Peprah, Pat Lee, Jarrett Bush, Josh Gordy. Peprah could be traded, but probably stays for depth. Pat Lee was on the bubble until 2 fumble recoveries vs. KC. Gordy was good early. Davon House could go on IR.
3 Specialists--Mason Crosby, Tim Masthay, Brett Goode
