Packers Family Night Follies

But Two Things Stood Out

  • Print

Ever since Brett Favre flew into Green Bay, and waved from a luxury box high above Lambeau Field in 2008...Family Night seems to have been cursed.

Now after rain altered things for the second time in 3 years, the disgust on Mike McCarthy's face said it all.  Something might have to be done, especially for a coach known for his plan, routine and precision.

In the limited amount of time on Lambeau Field, two things stood out to me.  One, rookie Randall Cobb making a great adjustment, breaking off his route, going up and getting an underthrown pass by Aaron Rodgers, and going for a 40 yard gain.

Despite Cobb's limited knowledge of the playbook, this kid is a talent.  When I asked Mike McCarthy about his adjustment, he said "Randall Cobb has excellent ball skills , like Charles Woodson."

Wow, that's pretty high praise.

And the second thing was undrafted rookie free agent corner back Brandian Ross.  I'm not saying it guarantees his place on the roster, but remember last year that Sam Shields had an INT and TD at Family Night...and he started in the Super Bowl.  And also remember that Brandon Underwood hurt his leg, and was seen on crutches in the locker room.  Keep making plays, and the youngster might fit on the practice squad or somewhere.
