Last Packer To Leave Lambeau, Turn Out the Lights!
Departures Are Alarming...And Expected
So going into Friday morning, Daryn Colledge, Brandon Jackson and Jason Spitz all signed elsewhere as free agents.
And Justin Harrell, Brady Poppinga and Nick Barnett, all cut.
This doesn't even include the likely departures of Cullen Jenkins and Korey Hall, the possible departure of James Jones, and the uncertain futures of John Kuhn and Mark Tauscher, among others.
So have the departures gotten to the alarming level for you Packers fans? I guess I'm old enough to remember a number of players leaving after winning Super Bowl 31. It hurts your depth, but does it destroy your team?
Not really.
It's proven over time that in the NFL, you need to make sure your core 10 players are really good, and healthy. Beyond that, most players are complimentary types. GM Ted Thompson realizes this, and he's earned the benefit of the doubt to keep a core group, and let the others walk.
Plus it's a copycat league. When somebody wins the Super Bowl, other teams overpay for those players.
Still, you might think some players are close to irreplaceable. If that's the case, tweet me up @lanceallan
