Packer Preps For Bears Day One
On The Field, The Trophy, And The NFC Championship
The Bears rarely say anything bad about Soldier Field publically, but the word is getting out, especially after Brian Urlacher questioned the quality of the playing surface on Sunday.
The Bears get frustrated because they don't run the field. The Chicago Public Works department does...and clearly, they don't know grass control. This field is voted one of the worst every year by players.
To the Packers credit, the closest anybody came to ripping it was A.J. Hawk saying "you never know what you get" with the field, but then later said both teams have to play on it.
Other things of note...the players were asked about the possibility of winning the George Halas NFC Championship trophy, against the Bears, on Chicago's home field, and most said that isn't the main trophy they're looking at. Since they're Packers, Lombardi looks and sounds better.
How can the Packers improve after that incredible performance in Atlanta? Greg Jennings immediately pointed the finger at himself, saying he can't turn the ball over like his early fumble.
And the loss of the NFC Championship game 3 years ago came up repeatedly. Scott Wells said they didn't do the little things, like 3rd down conversions and red zone efficiency well. And Greg Jennings admitted that he sat in the locker room, with his full jersey and pads on for 20 minutes, staring blankly into space.
It's negative, but good motivation to not let it happen again.
