I remember my first year in college at Madison. 1990...my first year was the first year for Barry Alvarez. And many times during a 1-10, one familiar chant could be heard in the fourth quarter....
We came to see the band! We came to see the band! We came to see the band!
It doesn't matter how many times you see them, the UW Marching Band always impresses. And trust me, plenty of people came to see the band march up Main Street at the Disneyland Resort, and play in front of a swarm of Badgers fans wearing red.
It was magical live TV as photojournalist Mark Was captured On Wisconsin, and long time director Mike Leckrone came over during it all to talk to me. On live TV, I asked how many Rose Bowls it was for the legend. Mike said 4. I asked are you sure you haven't done all 7? He laughed and said heavens, I'm not that old!
It's because his kids make him feel young. I'm looking forward to another hair raising event...a sea of red at the Santa Monica Pier for the Badgers Pep Rally. You won't want to miss that one either...
