My Take on the New Big Ten
Change is Needed, But This Should Have Been Better
Wisconsin in with Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, Illinois and Indiana?
Overall, that's ok. It's a favorable draw for the Badgers. But while the conference got it right by having Wisconsin and Minnesota play every year despite being in different divisions, they failed in not having Wisconsin and Iowa play on a more regular basis. And you won't see Northwestern (a close rival) or Michigan (a bitter rival) very often either Badgers fans, instead getting a more steady diet of the Boilermakers, Illini and Hoosiers.
I like the fact that Nebraska's welcome to the Big Ten moment will happen at Camp Randall on Oct. 1, 2011.
And having Michigan, Nebraska, Minnesota, Michigan State, Northwestern and Iowa in the other division? The conference would never come out and say it, but clearly having Michigan and Nebraska in seperate divisions means they want those two to meet up in the title game.
