Tribute to an Angel

Remembering Cody

  • Print

They are determined to find a silver lining to a repugnant story.

We were all shocked last year at the murder of 14-year-old Cody Reetz. His stepfather admitted to the crime. But Cody had such an effervescent presence that his friends and family are determined to keep his memory alive.

They are raising money to build the Cody Reetz Memorial Skate Park at Lime Kiln Park in Grafton.

I recently had a chance to talk to some of the young people who knew Cody. You could instantly feel that Cody as a special child. He had a big heart, and was known to light up a room.

His laughter and spirit were contagious. He is sorely missed by those who knew him. Cody loved snowboarding and skateboarding.

His friends say the proposed park is a perfect way to keep his memory alive.

How fitting that through a child's death, a community bonds. Let's hope organizers reach their goal.

No doubt, the Cody Reetz Memorial Skatepark will be a place of fun and joy for kids and adults, And when it's built, we know an angel will be smiling down from heaven.
