Going for the Gold
Milwaukee Loves the Olympics
The games are drawing viewers in droves. In fact, after 10 days, Milwaukee is the #1 market in the country for Olympic viewership. Pretty impressive!
Much has to do with the world class athletes we have around here who train at the Pettit National Ice center, and our proud tradition of major accomplishments in the winter games.
But I believe there is another draw. The fact that families can gather around the television and watch good clean entertainment. Let's face it, even some of the tame prime- time shows are filled with risqué scenes, violence, and sexual innuendos. It's nice to know that there's programming where parents can feel comfortable watching with their kids.
I guess it's a sad reminder of the times we live in. Today, reality shows seem to dominate interest. It's unfortunate that many of them are filled with empty, entitled people who send the wrong message. Often that the only things that matter are money, looks, and fame.
The network heads need to take note that there is interest in programming where the stars are born competition, discipline and hard work. These are the values kids need to see. But they're often the lessons left out of today's vast array of options. Too bad. The Olympics are proof that Americans, and many families hunger for wholesome entertainment. If only the Olympics came around a little more often. Go Team USA!!
