A Couple's Courage

  • Print
A courageous couple is an important reminder that we all can help save lives. This week TMJ4 reported on a Pewaukee couple who lost their son after an accident. Bryce Dempsey was riding in a minivan with his nanny when the vehicle was hit by a dump truck. His sister was also in the car. She was injured but survived. But despite their deep pain, Sue and Kyle Dempsey felt it was important to help get the word out about organ donations. So they shared their story with our own Heather Shannon. Their 3-year-old daughter remains in the hospital in critical condition. Little Mackenzie, who just turned three the day of the accident, was born without a pulmonary heart valve, and will need a transplant someday. Her parents know one day she will depend on the kindness and compassion of another donor family. In their pain, the Dempsey's had the strength and fortitude to think of others. Little Bryce gave the couple a lot of joy in his short years. He loved baseball, Tae Kwon Do, and math. And by losing his life, little Bryce has helped save another. The Dempsey's little angel left this earth far too son. But through his death, Sue and Kyle Dempsey have become guardian angels. By donating their child's organs, they are sparing other parents the deep grief they now feel. God Bless the Dempsey's and their ability to show humanity even in their darkest moments.
