Carole Meekins: Positively Milwaukee

From Tornadoes to Floods

  • Print
If your basement is dry, you have reason to rejoice. All over southeastern Wisconsin, people are cleaning up and drying out. Mother Nature's persistent storms this past weekend left behind millions in damage. The most amazing pictures were to see dream homes on Lake Delton in Wisconsin Dells, just fall apart and float away. Then the second most amazing picture was seeing the aftermath of a lake. Lake Delton vanished. Lake Delton near the Dells is essentially empty after the lake overflowed and went around a dam and emptied into the Wisconsin River. Four homes went with it. Now, Lake Delton is just one big mud hole. Wow!!! In addition to the heavy rains, the National Weather Service confirmed that 11 tornadoes on Monday that touched down over the weekend. The most serious was a tornado in Columbia County that caused minor injuries to five people. You can say what you want about weather coverage. But few things in life affect everyone. And no matter where you live, how old you are, or what you do, your life will be affected by the weather. We've seen many rescues of people stranded in their cars, homes, and boats over the past few days. But we can feel thankful that no one was seriously injured or killed. An important perspective just in case you are busy mixing bleach and water to clean out your water-logged basement.
