Brian Gotter: Welcome Back, Gotter

This February Compared to Past

  • Print

Another mild February week comes to an end and it remains quiet as well despite two storm systems passing through the area.  We had about an inch of snow Monday night that quickly melted and another storm system Wednesday night that only dropped a little light rain and drizzle.  Wednesday and Thursday were both in the mid to upper 40s.

With less than 2 weeks left in Meteorological Winter, this February has been very tame and we get an extra day thanks to Leap Day.  Watch Leap Day be frigid with a foot of snow…doubtful!  So how does this February compare to the past few February’s?

This February has had about 2.5” of snow compared to 9.8” for the entire month…so we are running about 3” below normal to this date.  This month is also about 5 degrees above normal.  Last February had the Blizzard and 29.6” fell for the month with normal temperatures.  February 2010 had 16.7” of snow and was 2.1 degrees above normal.  February 2009 was tame with only 7.9” of snow and 1.7 degrees above normal.  It was nasty in 2008 and 2007.  2008 had 31” of snow and was 3.4 degrees below normal and 2007 had 23.7” of snow and was a miserable 7.7 degrees below normal.

Today will have increasing clouds, highs in the 40s and afternoon sprinkles.
