We are Now in Snow Season
The trees are almost completely bare of their leaves and the air is getting colder as we wrap up October. The normal high temperature today is 55 compared to 67 at the beginning of the month and the normal low is 38 degrees today compared to 48 on October 1st.
Today is significant for Milwaukee weather because it is the average date of our first trace of snow in Milwaukee. The average October snowfall is 0.4”, mainly from the 1989 record snowfall of 6.3”. The average date of Milwaukee’s first measurable snow is November 14. Milwaukee’s average snowfall for the month of November is 3.6”.
Last year our first trace of snow was November 30 and the first accumulating snow was not until Dec. 4 with 3.6”. In 2009, the first snow was 0.4” on November 25th. In the snowy winter of 2008, the snow was nearly on schedule with the first trace on Oct. 26 and then November 8th had 0.1”. In 2007, the first trace was on November 15 and the first measurable snow was on November 21st with 1.2”.
As of today, we are in snow season, but lately the snow has been a little later than the average. The good news for non-snow lovers is that no snow is in the forecast for at least the next week.
