It's that time of year again...Chicago/Midwest Emmy nominations for TV excellence. I did not get nominated this year for best meteorologist. I was trying to win for the third year in a row, but I guess my skills have slipped...haha. You can't win all the time and I am honored to have won the past two years.
However, I am so excited because I was nominated along with my friend Ira Klusendorf, TMJ4 photojournalist, on our coverage of the Joplin EF5 Tornado. Ira is amazing at what he does and I could not have done any of the stuff we did in Joplin without him. It was an exhausting two and a half days with little sleep, but it is something I will never forget. The devastation, the emotion...it is still so raw and vivid in my mind.
I really wanted to be nominated for our work. It is the best thing I have ever done and it was all because of Ira! I can't thank him enough.
We are up against the big boys at WGN and meteorologist Tom Skilling for their Chicago Blizzard coverage which was outstanding. It will be a tough one to win, but will make it that much more cherished if we can win the Emmy in November.
Congratulations to Vince Vitrano for his nomination as best anchor. I work with Vinny everyday and we make each other laugh yet at the same time know when to be serious. Vince is one of the best when it comes to breaking news coverage and it is a privilege to work with him everyday.
Congratulations to all the Emmy nominees.
