Brian Gotter: Welcome Back, Gotter

Miserable Week...Nice Weekend!

  • Print

It has been a dreary and very wet week with areas of flash flooding and severe storms thanks to a slow moving low pressure system that moved out of the Plains on Monday night and has affected us all week.  The problems started on Monday morning when 1-2” of fell on Milwaukee in about 75 minutes creating flash flooding in low-lying areas.

Tuesday was the warm and humid day with severe storm creating a lot of wind damage in Waukesha and Jefferson counties and a month’s worth a rain in 2 days in Milwaukee.  Flash flooding occurred once again in Milwaukee and is always a concern in metropolitan areas with all the concrete and runoff.

Flooding is the #2 weather killer behind heat.  Lightning is #3 followed by tornadoes and hurricanes.  Tornadoes will end up being the #1 weather killer this year.

The clouds and fog have been stubborn all week, and today will only be in the 60s with clouds and some sun, but the storm system finally leaves the Midwest today and is replaced by high pressure which means a very nice weekend with sunshine Saturday and Sunday.  There is just a slight chance for showers late Sunday afternoon.  Highs will be in the low to mid 70s and a light breeze for Strawberry Fest in Cedarburg this weekend, the Jimmy Buffett concert at Alpine Valley and the Brewers are home taking on the Twins…the roof will be open this weekend.
