The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year!

By Shelley Walcott

Remember that old Staples back-to-school commercial?

The one where the dad takes his two sullen kids school supply shopping... and all the while he's dancing around the store full of glee as "The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year" plays in the background?

It's such a funny and classic spot.  Here's the link:

Well, today I am that dad.  I mean, mom.

Ashley starts school on Tuesday, and I am thrilled!

Now let me qualify this:

(Believe me I have to... some busybody might start telling everyone that I'm dissing my kid on my blog!)

Taylor and I had a fantastic summer with Ashley... one of the best ever!

Despite our busy work schedules, we had some really cool outings with family and friends.  My seven-year-old showed real maturity this summer... riding around the neighborhood on her bike with buddies, setting up a lemonade stand that was actually profitable, learning how to swim in 10 feet of water, attending sleepovers, and hosting a movie night at our house for a few of her little girlfriends that live nearby.

But one thousand juice boxes later... and mommy's little social butterfly has me and Daddy completely tuckered out.

It's tough enough keeping an eye on the 14-month old, let alone monitoring a seven-year-old who's constantly flying in and out of the house.

So I'm ready for the predictability that a new school year brings.  Between homework, swimming, ballet and girl scouts it should be a busy one.

But at least the activities will be routine.

And for a busy working mom like me... routine means rest!

Hope all you parents have a great first day!
