Spring Break... and Seven Months

By Shelley Walcott

This is my second night back at work after a wonderful spring break, and I've noticed something:  I am definitely more tired than usual.  It's not that I overly exerted myself or anything like that on my days off.  It's just that I am now seven months pregnant... and this whole "baby making" thing is really kind of exhausting!  Can I hear an "Amen" ladies??

What a great week Taylor, Ashley and I had.  We stayed in the city and spent some time working on Ashley's new bedroom, and the baby's room.  When we weren't  redecorating, we spent a couple of days poolside... at at the Lakeview RecPlex in Kenosha.  You may have heard of the place --- it's kind of like a "super gym" with an aquatic center that rivals any indoor waterpark.  My family spent hours just resting, eating nachos, drinking slushies, and swimming.   A blast!

Besides the pool, Ashley and I spent some a little time at a paint and pottery place, creating artwork for the house.  That was cool.  And, of course, my six-year-old had friends over... and then on Friday night, a milestone.  My daughter had her very first sleepover!  My husband and I actually let her stay over at a friend's house.  Now here's the thing ---

I wasn't real sure about letting her do that.  I still think six is pretty young to be off on your own.  But the other little girl's parents are friends of ours who we see once a week.  We trust them, and felt confident they would take good care of our little girl.  After Taylor and I dropped her off, we did something we rarely do: Date Night!!!  An intimate dinner, then a movie.  Grownup stuff.  It felt pretty darn good.  Still, I showed up at our friends' house the next morning at nine o'clock sharp to pick my daughter up.  I had missed her so much!  I asked her if she missed me.  She looked me dead in the eye and said, "No Mommy."

Whatever.

My other baby... the one I'm carting around in the womb... is more active than ever.  When Taylor and I are lying side-by-side in bed, he can feel the baby kicking, flipping, and carrying on.  He thinks that's the greatest thing in the whole world.  I do too, but I think I'd appreciate it more if I wasn't exhausted!

Two more months to go...

But until then, it's back in the saddle.   And I hope all of you with children had a chance to enjoy your spring break!
