An Open Letter to Miley Cyrus

An Open Letter to Miley Cyrus

Shelley Walcott

Dear Miley,

Hey girl!!!

This is the first time I'm writing you, but I feel like I know you so well already.

You are a constant fixture in my home.  My six-year-old daughter watches your mega-hit TV show "Hannah Montana" several times a week.  She can even recite a good portion of the dialogue.  Possibly because Disney Channel reruns episodes ad nauseum.

But I digress...

My husband and I are fans too.  We like your strong, independent-thinking teen image.  Taylor and I are so sick of the naive, unrealistic-type characters that we grew up with.  You're one of the few cable personalities that we can agree on.  "Zoey 101" is banned in our house,  I'm not real sure about the main girl from "Wizards of Waverly Place" and my husband just isn't down with "The Naked Brothers Band".

But... to tell you the truth honey... we wavered over you for a second earlier this week.

We're just really not sure about that picture of you all rolled up naked in a sheet with smudged lipstick and bedroom hair.  The implication was you were just entertaining someone...  though probably not with your singing talent.

The pic of you and Dad Billy wasn't so bad, but you should check out some of the family poses at Sears Photo Studio.  You don't really need to be all up on papa to show your love for dear old dad.  Sorry, it's just a matter of taste.

I'm glad you apologized for the spread in Vanity Fair.  Hey, we all make poor judgement calls!  And chances are, my daughter won't be picking up my copy of the mag.

Were you manipulated into taking the photo?  I doubt that.  Did Disney Channel execs freak when they saw the spread?  That's probably the more likely cause of your regret.

Because the folks at Disney understand that silly old parents like me and my husband are trying to raise little girls who can develop self esteem without the need to be "sexy". We want them to keep their clothes on for as long as possible.  Get it?

So... we'll keep watching and sustain your superstardom, if you hold on to that wholesome image.  Deal?

Then we really will all have the best of both worlds
