Walcotts Thoughts

Goodbye Silvia...

Goodbye Silvia...

Shelley Walcott

The thing about the news business... or any business at all I guess.... is that people come, and people go.

But our Silvia Acevedo is no ordinary person...

Today is Silvia's last day reporting for TMJ4.  She's decided to leave because her family needs her on weekends.  And that's part of what is unique about Silvia: She only reported on weekends.  Saturday and Sunday evenings.  Not that she spent Monday to Friday lollygagging.  If you can believe it, Silvia actually home-schools her three children.  So she literally never got a day off.  That's not what affected her decision to leave, but it certainly speaks to the dedication and discipline that so defines Silvia Acevedo.  We have worked closely together for just about two years now and I can honestly say Silvia is one of the most professional people I have ever met.

So we couldn't let our girl go without a sendoff.  A huge crowd of people from the station went out for drinks with Silvia on Friday night.  We went to Bar Louie at Bayshore Mall and had an absolute blast!  The party didn't wrap up until 2:30 in the morning, when bar managers had to gently ask the party to hit the road!

And today, we reached in and found our inner child and presented Silvia with cake and ice cream.  Here's Charles serving it up!

We also presented Silvia with this very cool caricature card.  It was created by Nick, one of our supremely talented station artists.  Isn't that a great likeness?  The card was filled with personal messages.  A testament to how well liked Silvia is around here.

While it's sad to see Silvia go, I look forward to her bringing her kids over for playdates, or just having lunch or dinner with her.  She is a class act.  Goodbye and good luck Silvia!!!  Everyone wishes you the very best...
