The Passing Game

The Passing Game

Ok, seriously... Aaron Rodgers has got to be the happiest man in Green Bay today.

I mean... I'm sure that like sports fans everywhere he's sad to see Favre go.  After all, for two years Rodgers has been groomed under the Great One.  What an honor and a privilege.  But I'm sure that deep down inside,  this talented athlete.... a first-round pick in 2005... is glad to see his days languishing on the bench finally come to an end.

As much as Packers fans have relished the Favre era, we all got a glimpse of the future back in November, when Rodgers turned out an impressive performance during a showdown against the Cowboys.

When Favre suddenly became sidelined with injury,  Rodgers had to step up and show what he was made of.  Imagine the pressure.  But number 12 finished the night 18-of-26 for 201 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions and no fumbles.  Rodgers couldn't save the Packers that night, but he sure showed everyone what he's made of.

In the coming days  --- make that months ---  much will be said and written about Favre's stunning career and his legendary run...

.... the superlatives will surely fail us.

But now, fans must prepare themselves for the passing game.  Goodbye Brett and hello Aaron.  And the trick will be to let Aaron be Aaron, and not expect him to be Brett number two.

We don't know if Rodgers is going to be another "iron man"...  missing virtually no games and performing superhuman feats on the field.

What is clear is that all of Packerdom will need to emotionally prepare to usher in the new era in Green Bay.  Because like so many other instances in life... the show must go on.
