Vince Vitrano: Not For BroadcastLIVE FROM MILLER PARKPLAYOFF BASEBALLBy Vince VitranoSusan and I did much of Live at Daybreak from Miller Park this morning.
Then the season happened... and here we are. Back at Miller Park after 162 games... the Wild Card Champions, and indeed going to the playoffs. My thanks to our field crew today including Ira Klussendorf our photographer, and John Tyler our engineer for making the television magic happen. Here are a few thoughts I had throughout the season, as you enjoy the behind the scenes pics from this morning. At the beginning of the year, I thought we would win the division. I was wrong about that.
At the beginning of the year, I thought we would at least make the NLCS. That remains to be seen. I thought Yovanni was done for the year. I was wrong about that. I thought CC Sabathia would be really good for us. I was wrong about that. He was near perfect, and everything we needed. At the end of August, I still thought we would win the division. I was still wrong about that.
2 weeks ago, I breathed a sad sigh, at least relieved I wouldn't incur a large charge on my credit card for playoff tix. I was wrong about that. Last week I thought we would make the playoffs. I was right about that. Saturday, I thought Ben Sheets would be brilliant. He often does that after leaving early due to injury. I was wrong about that. I thought I'd get tears in my eyes if I ever saw this day again. I was right about that. emails: vvitrano@todaystmj4.com

Six months ago we did much the same thing on opening day. Susan and I were live on the field at Miller Park on Friday, April 4 2008. We had just taken 2 of 3 from the Cubs on the road. We were going to win the division. We were going to the playoffs. It seemed silly to think otherwise.
At the beginning of the year, I thought we would make the playoffs. I was right about that.
In the middle of September, I thought it was over. The collapse was complete. I was wrong about that.
