Vince Vitrano: Not For Broadcast

OBAMA/MCCAIN MEETING

OBAMA/MCCAIN MEETING

LIKE EPISODE OF CHRIS FARLEY SHOW

If I were writing for Saturday Night Live, and the late, great Chris Farley were still with us... I envision a fantastic sketch playing off of the Obama McCain meeting yesterday.

President Elect Brack Obama hosted Senator John McCain for a "sit down" yesterday. Regardless of which one was your candidate in the last election, you've got to admit it's good to see, right? Let's you two sit down, hash out some stuff, vow to come together and move the country forward.

I wonder though, don't you, if they ever really got into some of the stuff that happened during the campaign. Do they ever even mention it? Do they laugh about it behind closed doors?

It would have been a prime moment for a "Chris Farley Show" style chat. Remember that sketch they used to do on SNL with Farley? He was the host of a talk-show. Virtually every question he asked began with "Remember that time when..." It was hilarious. He asked Paul McCartney, "Remember that time... when you were in that band... with those 3 other guys?"  He asked Arnold Schwarzenegger, "Remember that time when you said 'I'll be back' in both Terminators?"

Here now is the secret transcript to the Obama/McCain closed door meeting yesterday:

MCCAIN: Remember that time you told Joe the Plumber you were going to take all his money and give it to someone else.

OBAMA: Yeah... and then remember how you made Joe the Plumber the basis for your entire campaign, and then introduced him at a rally and then he wasn't there.

MCCAIN: Yep. And then... remember... when you turned down my "Town Hall" debate challenge.

OBAMA: Yeah, and remember when we did a town hall debate, and you called me "that one."

MCCAIN: I remember that. Remember when I went on Saturday Night Live with Sarah Palin and we were really funny.

OBAMA: Yeah. Remember how that didn't work.

MCCAIN: Yeah. Remember that time when Jesse Jackson said he wanted to "..cut your nut$ off."

OBAMA: You know that's true. He did say that.

MCCAIN: I know. I thought it was kind of funny actually.

OBAMA: You thought it was funny? I thought it was hysterical!

Laughter.

OBAMA: Remember when Rev. Jackson thought he was going to be the first black President?

MCCAIN: Yeah... and then... remember that time when we were both in the Senate?

OBAMA: Yeah... and then... oh, yeah... remember... remember that time, on November 4th, when I won the election... yeah... that was awesome.

You just wonder... behind closed doors... do they talk about any of this stuff? Do they swear? Do they retreat from the spin? Do they acknowledge, "Yeah, that was a good one," or what?
