Every time someone mistakes my job for a "glamorous" position, I remind them of emails like the one I just got.

A woman emailed me to say she probably won't be watching our television station anymore because of the manner in which I shuffle my "papers."

Marianne writes:

"I know it's such a small irritation but seeing you shuffle those papers in front of you for no apparent reason is driving me to distraction, at least to a different channel. You're probably doing this without being aware of how it looks to your audience.   Therefore, I would suggest you watch a tape of it one of these days. I probably won't want to watch channel 4 much longer."   

Born and raised in this hard working town, I am a firm believer in the customer always being right. I guess I do pay attention to my "papers" a lot. They're actually my scripts for the show. They're being shuffled because, well, I'm turning the pages to keep up.

Anyway, in case anyone else was wondering about the "papers" and the "shuffling" that's what's up with that. I hope it doesn't cause you to switch news organizations.
