Man faces eighth drunken-driving charge

Port Washington - A Germantown man has been charged with an eighth drunken-driving offense after police stopped him shortly before 6 p.m. Saturday in Grafton for driving with an expired license plate.

When he was pulled over on Highway 60 near 5th Ave., Leonard R. Sterns, 58, told the police officer that there may be a warrant out for his arrest for failure to appear in court, according to a criminal complaint filed Monday in Ozaukee County Circuit Court.

The officer smelled alcohol and saw several unopened cans of beer in the backseat area of the car and one open can of beer on the front seat, the complaint says.

Sterns was taken to Columbia St. Mary's Hospital Ozaukee in Mequon , where police and hospital security had to hold him down to draw blood after he told police "they would have to beat him up in order to get his blood," the complaint says.

According to the complaint, Sterns was convicted of drunken driving offenses six times, five of them outside Wisconsin . His most recent conviction was in February in Washington County , the complaint says.

Another case is pending in Washington County . It was in that case that the warrant was issued for his arrest, the complaint says.

Sterns appeared in court Monday, and bail was set at $10,000.

-----------
Eight time drunk driver?!  Are you kidding me?  And he tells cops that they are going to have to beat him up to get a blood sample?  Well, I guess that would be one way to collect some blood.

This guy needs to be locked up for a very long time.  I have an idea let's lock him up for ten years for every .01 he is over the legl limit.  The legal limit is .08.  So if this clown is found to be at .13 he gets fifty years in prison.  It may be the only way to keep innocent people from being hurt or killed.
