"Tuesdays with Morrie"

"Tuesdays with Morrie"

A while back Vince Vitrano and I discussed launching a book club.  It never happened, and contrary to persistent rumors our club's demise had nothing to do with Vitrano's ability to read or not read.  As a matter of fact if you watch Daybreak on our station it's obvious that Vitrano is a rather proficient reader.  He may not be a voracious reader, but he is proficient.   What a tangent.  This post was not intended to be on Vitrano's reading ability.

I don't usually do book reviews, but I just got done reading the most amazing book.  "Tuesdays with Morrie" by Mitch Albom.  It is a magical story of a grown man who reconnects with his college professor Morrie 20 years after finishing college.  When Mitch hooks back up with Morrie he discovers that Morrie is dying.  Mitch spends every Tuesday the next several months flying across the country to hang out with Morrie in his study.  These meetings serve as a final lesson about life and death for Mitch.

The book is amazing.  It is uplifting and sad... sometimes on the same page.  It is a powerful story about what's important.  And I must be one of the only people in America who had not read the book.  It came out in 1997 and spent more than four years on the New York Times best seller list.

I read the 190 pages of  "Tuesday with Morrie" in one night.  I couldn't put it down or turn off the light until I was finished.  That's probably a little quicker than Vitrano would have read it.  I may offer to read it to my friend if he's interested.
