Puppymill: Mitize

Puppymill: Mitize

John Mercure

Yesterday at 5P we showed you the story of Mitize and other Bichons who had recently been rescued from a Wisconsin puppy mill.

Here is the story that we ran.

The lady who adopted Mitize sent me a nice email.  I thought I would share it with you. THERE ARE PICTURES AT THE BOTTOM.

In case you get inquiries from your viewers -- please feel free to let everyone know that Mitzie who is now known as ANGEL  - is doing WONDERFUL -- I fostered her and then adopted her because she is the most loving little Angel I ever met.

She lacks a lot of social skills, is very afraid of Joe my boyfriend, when he wears jeans or gym shoes because most millers wear jeans and gym shoes and it frightens her.  She cowers when you go to approach her and I'm the only one that she is not afraid of the majority of the time.  Sometimes she is even afraid of me.

She won't eat if we are watching her. She waits until we leave the room and then eats out of our vision.
She gets frightened if I even call out to Joe in the next room - as a raised voice scares her.  She does not know how to play with toys - and chews everything that gets into her midst.......even shoes.  She never did get to enjoy being a puppy, so now she is experiencing that.

She was not housetrained, but we are working on that and she is doing well because she is copying my male bichon who is a socialized dog.  Whatever he does, she does.  At first she would not even go into a crate, but now, after 6 weeks, she is comfortable enough to go into a crate if the door is open, and lay down.
She sleeps in bed with us and it's hard to get her to leave the bed - I imagine the warmth and softness of a bed and pillow are more new experiences for her.

She had never seen grass before and to get her to potty on grass was a bit of challenge, but we're doing ok.
When it rained she was frightened to go outside, probably because she never saw rain - can't wait until it snows.

But rest assured - our little Angel is happy - her tail wags all the time and that little missing foot is not any hinderance to her enjoying freedom -- she runs around our fenced in yard like no tomorrow -- never having experienced freedom before in her life.

We feel very blessed to have Angel in our life and hope that there are a lot of your viewers out there who will support the closing of these mills and/or adopt a mill dog and help them learn to integrate into society the way they were meant by God to do.

Thanks for a wonderful story - and the great photos of my little girl....

Here's a more recent photo of her with little winter sweater on.   And the second photo is Angel with her bonded brother Marley Joe - Angel is on the left - as you can see they are very close and sleep like this often -- sometimes she sleeps with her head on his back for fear he will leave her. She is very secure with him around and stays at his side most of the day and night.
