Sports Glance With LanceHERE COME THE PACKER CUTSCLIP THIS, SEE IF I'M RIGHTBy Lance Allan
Every year, I play a little game...I try to see if I can get the Packers 53-man roster, right down to the long snapper. With the injury to J.J. Jansen, that might be a little more difficult...but let's see if I can do it, and you can hold me to it.
Barring any trades, which will probably happen but no one can predict, here's your 2008 Packers to start the season:
QB (3): Aaron Rodgers, Matt Flynn, Brian Brohm. Flynn passed Brohm for the backup spot in the final game. The Packers will stick with youth over experience.
RB (6): Ryan Grant, Brandon Jackson, Noah Herron, Kregg Lumpkin, Korey Hall, John Kuhn. I think Vernand Morency gets traded or cut.
WR (5): Donald Driver, Greg Jennings, James Jones, Ruvell Martin, Jordy Nelson. Jones should be ready for the Vikings.
TE (3): Donald Lee, Tory Humphrey, Jermichael Finley. Maybe a veteran if Humphrey's injury concerns crop up, but not now.
OL (9): Chad Clifton, Daryn Colledge, Scott Wells, Jason Spitz, Mark Tauscher, Allen Barbre, Tony Moll, Josh Sitton, Breno Giacomini.
DL (9): Aaron Kampman, Cullen Jenkins, Ryan Pickett, Johnny Jolly, Colin Cole, Daniel Muir, Michael Montgomery, Jeremy Thompson, and a cut/traded player to be determined. I have a feeling KGB gets put on the PUP list, meaning he's out for 6 weeks. Just a guess. And with Justin Harrell on the PUP, the Packers will be looking for some vet off the scrap heap via waiver wire or trade.
LB (6): Nick Barnett, A.J. Hawk, Brady Poppinga, Brandon Chillar, Abdul Hodge, Desmond Bishop. I think Tracy White gets traded...cruel, but the Packers are loaded here and have other injury concerns.
DB's (9): Al Harris, Charles Woodson, Nick Collins, Atari Bigby, Aaron Rouse, Tramon Williams, Will Blackmon, Jarrett Bush, Pat Lee. Sad to see Charlie Peprah and Tyrone Culver go, but somebody has to.
Specialists (3): Mason Crosby, Jon Ryan, Long Snapper. I have a sneaky suspicion the Packers will bring back Thomas Gafford and IR J.J. Jansen if his knee injury is as bad as what it looks like.
That's 53. Agree? Disagree? More insight than me? Email me at lallan@todaystmj4.com
