As we first reported, sources with knowledge of the conversation told us that Brett Favre and his agent Bus Cook were told by Packers President Mark Murphy that Favre could earn around $20 million or approximately $2 million a year for ten years, to stay away from Packers training camp and stay retired. It doesn't appear that Favre accepted the offer, because he still wants to play. While he wouldn't talk about it as he returned to Green Bay, Murphy seemed to support the offer with a statement, saying he hoped Favre would maintain a "long-term relationship with the Packers." With the conversation reaching a stalemate, and no resolution in sight, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell hopes to talk with Favre on Thursday and Bus Cook said Favre could be in Green Bay as soon as Friday. When I asked Coach Mike McCarty on Wednesday if the Packers would still accept Brett Favre as a back up if he returned, McCarthy said, "Absolutely..
