Sports Glance With LanceWHAT, ME WORRY?THINGS TO CONCERN YOURSELF ABOUT THE CREWBy Lance AllanThere's a lot of reasons to believe that the Brewers 26-year playoff drought is over. But you know me. As a member, I'm wired to worry about what might happen. What could happen. What fans hope never happens. Remember, about this same time last year is when the wheels fell off for the Crew, and they couldn't recover by the end of September. And while there's plenty of reasons to believe this fall will be different, here are just a few observations that send up a red flag or two for me: Ryan Braun's rib cage muscle injury. Am I right in thinking that this isn't going to get better any time soon, since he took nearly a week off, then played 3 games before coming out again? Late inning mistakes. Defense wins championships, and it seems like the Brewers have made several 9th inning errors or miscues that come postseason, will kill them. CC's pitch count. While I think it's admirable that he threw 130 times to get the win against the Astros, at some point doesn't your arm tire or fall off? Rickie Weeks hand injuries. It seems to me to be caused by his violent swing. His sprained thumb could linger, and this sort of thing seems like it will happen again. Solomon Torres as closer. He's done a very good job so far. But I'm a little concerned about "getting it done" in the postseason. The Cardinals. Just when you think they're going to fade, they just don't go away. And they might get some injured pitchers back to help the cause. What ever the Cubs do, they do. But the Cards only 2 1/2 games back? With the Genius Tony at the controls? Thank goodness the Crew only has two games left, both in St. Louis with these guys. You think I'm crazy, or do you have other concerns? Let me know at lallan@todaystmj4.com
