Sports Glance With LanceSHAREHOLDERS UNITE!MY VIEW FROM THE EVENTFUL MEETINGBy Lance AllanNormally, give me a Mountain Dew to keep me away through the Packers Shareholders meeting. This time, they should have had it on the 4th of July, with all of the fireworks exploding around Lambeau Field. Here's what I observed: Only 90 seconds in, Packers President Mark Murphy brought up the Favre situation. It was a solid mix of cheers and boos, with one man clearly shouting "Bring Back Brett." The biggest surprise? Mostly cheers, very few boos for GM Ted Thompson. But the venom would be saved for later...we had one fan shouting "give four a call" as Ted left the field....and another fan asking Ted if Aaron Rodgers really gives the team a better chance of winning the Super Bowl than Favre, and Thompson tersely told the fan that they could talk about that another day. We learned through a source close to the situation that Brett Favre called for Ted Thompson on Wednesday, leaving him a message, wondering about his future. Thompson never returned the call. Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy never once said Brett Favre's name while delicately dancing around the situation. Thompson said "families sometimes disagree but we still are a family" while McCarthy talked about how he told his team to watch "uncommon obstacles and distractions." My guess is that the Packers will cancel the Favre jersey retirement on September 8th. Too soon, too much uncertainty, too much bad blood. Packers official Jason Wied explained that the Packers primary practice field for training camp, could be behind the Don Hutson Center starting next year...because of traffic concerns on Oneida St.
