BUCKS GM READY TO RUMBLE

Lance Allan

OK, I'll make the sarcastic joke right off the bat...are the Bucks going to put an all 6'5"-6'8" forward lineup on the floor next year at some point with Richard Jefferson, Charlie Villanueva, Joe Alexander, Desmond Mason and Luc Richard Mbah a Moute?

Yes, the Bucks have a glut of forwards...but there's one thing that's clear.  After draft night, Bucks Owner Herb Kohl has given new GM John Hammond the authority to make moves.  And he's taking a sledgehammer to the Bucks house in a major remodeling project.

First up, trading last year's first round pick Yi and the dead weight contract of Bobby Simmons to New Jersey for Richard Jefferson.  Jefferson plays hard, plays defense, and fills some of the leadership void on the team.  And clearly this move screams that the Bucks aren't waiting to rebuild...they plan to win now.

Then like Bucks Director of Player Personnel Dave Babcock told me before the draft, this trade didn't change the Bucks draft board.  And like Tammy Wynette singing Stand By Your Man, as expected the Bucks took athletic forward Joe Alexander.

And as we told you before, the Bucks aren't trading Michael Redd.  The core of the team will be Redd, Jefferson, and Andrew Bogut.  Mo Williams?  You're on the clock and on the block.

Maybe Kohl mettled too much before...but at least this time around he had the smarts to allow Hammond to beef up his personnel and scouting staff, plus trade the marketing dollars of Yi to truly make the team better with Jefferson, and take on salary.  I'm beginning to like this already...
