WIAA Needs To Lighten Up

Lance Allan

Do me a favor WIAA....you want school pride.  You want fans excited and showing up at your games.  You want a live atmosphere.

Then don't turn into the NCAA or the No Fun League NFL.

Let me get this straight.  You can show your school pride...just don't show your chest or school colors.  That's the basic idea that the sportsmanship committee of the WIAA is recommending by banning fans if they have bare or painted chests at indoor games.  The proposal will take effect if state athletic directors and the WIAA Board of Control approve it on June 19th.

This is a joke.  So it's ok for outdoor events, when the weather is even worse?

And if you want kids to have pride in their school, this is a sure fire way to put a wet blanket to douse those flames.

The WIAA says they aren't trying to take the fun out of high school sports...and reasons that if high school students can't bare their chest in class, there's not reason for them to do it at an indoor sporting event.

Oh sure, there are plenty of kids in 4th hour wanting to tear off their top to chant "Calculus!  Calculus!  Calculus!"  How ridiculous.

The WIAA claims they've had complaints.  From whom?  Please, they're few and far between.

The WIAA says they'll allow face paint, but not body paint because it could damage seats.  Now that's flawed thinking.  Wouldn't face paint do that as well?  And like you don't have to clean up a little from gum, food, and other items kids use on an every day basis.

Like Stripes, somebody needs to tell the WIAA to "lighten up, Francis!"

I don't think I'm way off base here, but please e-mail me at lallan@todaystmj4.com
