Is it Dark Out There Or is it Just Me?

We are moving rapidly toward the time of the year when we have the least amount of daylight.  That occurs in mid to late December.  On our way, we experience some very late sunrises and early sunsets.

The day with the latest sunrise this year is Halloween, Saturday, October 31st.  On that morning, the sun doesn't come up until 725am.  The following morning is when we turn the clocks back and return to standard time.  So, sunrise on Sunday, November 1st is about an hour earlier than on Halloween morning.

Our journey toward the shortest days of the year is also accompanied by earlier and earlier sunsets...and those are accelerated by the time change.  The time of earliest sunset this year is 417pm...and this occurs each afternoon from December 3rd to 14th.  The middle day in the range is December 9th, so it would be too much of a stretch to consider that the day with the earliest sunset.

No one likes warm summer weather and bright summer evenings more than me.  That said, those of us who work the early, early shift here at TMJ4 aren't completely against the early sunsets.  It makes it easier to get to sleep early!
