Craig Koplien: Weather or NotIn Doug We TrustBy Craig Koplien

One of the guys I work with said yesterday, "In Doug We Trust". I couldn't agree more. The Doug of which we speak is Milwaukee Brewers General Manager Doug Melvin...and the topic we were discussing was the hiring of the Brewers new manager. ![]() When names started leaking out about who Melvin was considering bringing in, the one I backed was Bob Brenly. Yesterday we learned that Melvin's choice was Ken Macha. He was also Melvin's choice back before he hired Ned Yost many years ago...so it's no surprise that he still topped Melvin's list. ![]() My reaction: Fine. If Doug says he's the right guy...then I'm on board. In Doug We Trust. Melvin certainly hasn't been perfect during his run as our favorite team's General Manager. But he hasn't swung and missed very often. He's batting way above .500...way better than his predecessors...and way better than most GMs in the game. Melvin's tenure steering our ship reminds me of when Ron Wolf ran the Packers. ![]() Unlike Melvin, Wolf was a pretty surly guy who had no problem looking you in the eye and lying to your face if he thought it was in the best interest of the team. But, just like Melvin, he too made the right call on players and coaches way more often than the wrong one. So...I'm a Ken Macha-guy now...because Doug Melvin says I should be. And I'll also back Melvin on whatever he decides to do with Mike Cameron, Prince Fielder, the pitching staff, and 2nd & 3rd base. In Doug We Trust. (But Doug, seriously, you're going to test my loyalty if you run Weeks and Hall back out there at 2nd & 3rd next year.)
