Craig Koplien: Weather or NotNothing Like Waiting Until The Last MinuteBy Craig Koplien

I believe I heard on the news this morning that the city of Milwaukee is looking for people to help work at the polls on Election Day. ![]() That's 4 days from now. Hopefully they'll get enough people...and everything will be fine. But I couldn't help thinking...they're looking for people now? Four days before Election Day? They've had weeks, months...4 years really...to get people hired for this. Haven't we known since Election Day 2004 that the next presidential election was going to be on Tuesday, November 4th, 2008? Somebody just now figured that there won't be enough workers? ![]() Speaking of having 4 years to get things worked out, how many stories do you think we're going to hear next week about problems with ballots and voting machines? Remember the last couple of elections...voting machines not working properly, hanging chads, running out of ballots, computers crashing? The folks in charge of making sure such things don't happen have had 4 years to get everything ready for next Tuesday. I hope I'm wrong, but right now I worry that we're yet again going to be hearing about all kinds of mechanical breakdowns. ![]() I believe the next presidential election will take place on Tuesday, November 6th, 2012. Send your applications in now if you can work the the polls that day.
