Packers, Badgers, Economy: All Falling Fast

As the stock market tanks, and the overall economy in the U.S. heads deeper into the lavatory, at least we can take comfort in knowing our football teams are having good seasons.

Shoot.

Now I wasn't expecting a great year out of the Packers to begin with, but it's beginning to look like they may not achieve even my modest expectations.  My pre-season prediction was for the Pack to finish at 9-7.  At 2-3 currently, this group has some ground to make up.

So far, they've beaten the Vikings at home on the opening weekend (it's not tough to get ramped up to play in primetime on your home field on opening night...and the Lions in Detroit (who may very well be the worst team in the league...and who, despite the final score, were beating the Packers late in the game.)

Since then, the Packers have lost defensive starters Al Harris, Atari Bigby and Cullen Jenkins.  And now I hear rumblings that A.J. Hawk may be held out this weekend.  With all of the pre-season panic regarding whether the Packers could go on without Brett Favre, who would have thought the defensive side of the ball would be the biggest problem.

I don't like the Packers to turn it around this weekend either.

Craig's Call:
Seattle 30
Packers 23

I'm not sure anyone really knew what to expect in Madison this year.  Most, however, did believe Michigan would be down (they are)...and with the Badgers getting Ohio State at home in primetime, it seemed the Big Ten was available for the taking.

Yeah...no.

The Badgers pulled off a stunning come-from-ahead collapse against Michigan, then couldn't finish the deal against Ohio State.  Couple those losses with the fact that this weekend's opponent Penn State looks better than everybody in the conference, this season is getting really bad, really quick.

Craig's Call:
Penn State 34
Wisconsin 20

On the flipside, this weekend's weather will be gorgeous.
