New York Style

By Brian Gotter (WTMJ)

One of the best things to do in NY is people watch and to see what the styles are since it is a fashion hub.

Here are the things we noticed while walking around all day:

1.)  Light hair and light eyes like us German folk (Tina and I) are rare in New York.  Dark hair and dark complexion are very common.  Lots of Italians and other ethnicity's in the big city.

2.) 90% of women (of all ages) were wearing tall black boots up to the knees with high heels.  Tina loves the boots and glad they are back in full force.  With the boots, black tights under a mini skirt are very popular for the ladies.  Yes tights are back in style ladies..as are leg warmers..bring back the 80s!

3.) For men, dark suits and NO TIES!!!  Not many New Yorkers wears ties.   I love that..ties are uncomfortable, expensive and are so old school .

 4.) Everyone wears black.

It is a bit depressing to see all the black clothes, but it is sleek looking.  If not wearing black suits, men are wearing dark jeans and black shirts.

5.) Also, New Yorkers are very slim..I guess from all the walking and too busy to eat.  The iPod was made for New York City.  Most people walking around or on the subway or the trains have their iPod headphones on and are bopping to the music.

6.) New Yorkers get a bad rap for being rude and mean.  We think just the opposite over the years..they are extremely friendly.  When we took Ali into the City 3 years ago the city lit up...."Oh a baby, how cute and adorable!"  They could not get enough.

They are so helpful, friendly and polite.  Cab drivers are awesome and funny.  I like the TVs and GPS in the cabs now as well.  You can watch prerecorded news, weather and sports from the local stations...quit news update while stuck in traffic...smart.
