Exhausting Weekend

By Brian Gotter (WTMJ)

What a weekend!  I could not sleep when I got home late Friday night after working the 10pm news..guess the adrenaline was pumping so I stayed up and watched TV and played with my new IPhone...dumb idea.  I only got a few hours of sleep and this weekend was busy.

I woke up and took Ali up to my aunt and uncle who were camping at County Park in Stockbridge..on Lake Winnebago.  If you have no idea where it is, it is west of Chilton.  Ali was so excited to go camping with her aunt and uncle.  The weather was chilly, but they still had fun fishing, hiking and having a campfire Saturday night.  She got to sleep in her sleeping bag in the camper.  I drove home and got back just in time to get ready for Tina and I to go to our friends wedding in Grafton.  I was tired, ready for a nap, and wanted to finish watching the Oklahoma Texas game that I had been listening to on the radio as I was driving home.  No nap..the night was just beginning.  The wedding was beautiful, as was the bride, and the reception was fun.  I danced and embarrassed myself a bit.  We were home by 1am and the alarm went off at 5:15am...ouch.  We had to get up and leave early for Green Bay.  Sunday was the Packers turn to promote Breast Cancer Awareness and Tina and 40 other women passed out 10,000 pink ribbons before the game.  I tailgated with our friends as always and it was a great time.  Tina was only about 100 yards from us since we almost had front row parking next to the stadium since we were there so early.  It was a bit chilly in the morning..frosty, as was the beer.  The bloody marys were delicious and I made Chicago hot dogs.  Nothing fancy..it is just the Lions, but man were they delicious.  Tina was drooling as she had to wait.

Tina actually finished volunteering at 10:30 and she had a chance to tailgate as well...she was craving my famous bloody marys.  After almost 4 hours of tailgating, it was time to get to our seats and cheer on The Pack.  I love walking into the stadium..always gives me chills, and not because of the weather.  No place like it!

The game was exciting..still a lot of mistakes and other nagging issues, but Rodgers looks great and I am becoming a huge fan of Clay Matthews.  That guy is all over the field and making plays.  Bigby returned and I guess he has more of an impact then I gave him credit for...his presence helped the defense.  Unfortunately Clifton's return to O-line did not help.  O-Line sucks!  Poor Rodgers.  Congratulations to Donald Driver for breaking Sterling Sharpe's reception record.  It could not have happened to a better man and player.  he just does his job and gets no national attention..he just wants to be the best and win.  Love Driver!!

The game was relaxing for once..no stress.  We could just sit back and watch, enjoy the sunshine (get wind burn on our face) and catch up with friends in our section.  It was an awesome afternoon at Lambeau.  One guy that sits across the aisle from me comes to one game  a year with his wife and he commented on my gray hair.  They could not believe how gray I have become the past few seasons...have you seen this team?  Stressful...lol.  We passed Ali's first school picture around as well...everyone thought she looked like a 6 or 7 year old..oh boy.  They can not believe how quickly she was growing up...most said it seems like last season that Tina was pregnant in the stadium...time flies.

After the game we went to Curley's Pub for the post game radio show on AM 620..our tradition.  Yesterday's guest was Nick Collins..I was hoping for Clay Matthews.  I also got to meet Linebackers coach Kevin Greene...he and his family were very nice to talk with.

We met up with our friends from Hudson, WI who were in town for the game.  If we did not have the wedding on Saturday night, we would have spent the night in Green Bay hanging with our friends Joe and Christine.  We hung out Sunday evening and went to dinner before we left Green Bay around 7:30pm to pick up Ali.  She was so excited to see us and tell us all about her camping weekend.  She was exhausted and as soon as we got in the truck Ali said she was going to sleep because she was tired and needed her sleep.  She was out...so out that when I put her to bed she never woke up.  We were home by 10 and I was asleep by 10:02.  I was exhausted, but it was so worth it.
