Welcome Back, GotterThe SpiderBy Brian GotterAs I was driving Ali to preschool this morning, we had some entertainment from a very little spider. We were stopped at a stop light before getting onto I-43 in Grafton and as we were talking and laughing about something, a little spider fell on the windshield. Ali is fascinated by spiders. She does not like them, but she can't stop looking at them. So this little spider on our windshield created all kinds of questions. "Why is he not inside daddy? Where did he come from? Did he fall from a cloud? What is he doing? We just sat at the light and watched him, or her, run around the windshield. Ali was quite amused. You are probably thinking to yourself that the Gotter's are easily amused; well yes, but there is more. I told Ali to watch the spider as we start to drive to see if it would blow away. "What do you mean daddy?" Remember the part in the Bee Movie when the bugs were hanging onto the windshield as the truck drove down the highway...lets see if the spider can hang on or if he flies away in the wind. "Ok daddy." "What do you mean?" The moment we started to drive the spider lowered itself like a low rider car and hung on for dear life. I thought he was going to blow away before we hit the on ramp but he held on and vibrated in the wind. Ali agreed the spider was going to be gone on the interstate because we would be driving too fast. What a stud of a spider. As we got up to 70mph, I mean 65 (ha ha), the spider looked flat against the windshield and one of his legs was flapping in the wind, but he hung on for 12 miles. As we slowed down on the off ramp at Good Hope Rd I thought the spider was dead...he looked squashed and I almost used the wiper to clean up the mess but I waited. Ali said: "He's dead daddy!" The moment the car stopped at the light the spider popped up and quickly ran off the car. "He's alive daddy...where is he going so fast?" He wants to get out of here. He survived and does not want to have to go on that ride again. Ali just laughed.
