It's Over!

By Brian Gotter

After two long years of campaigning, it is FINALLY over.  I am so sick of the political ads...the only thing worse is that Toyota ad that is on every commercial break.  You know the one...has a big 0% on it and has the song "Saved by Zero."  It was cool the first few times, but now I see it 10 times a night.

History was made last night.  Congratulations to President Elect Obama.  One year ago I thought it would be Rudy vs Hillary.  No way did this up and coming Senator have a chance...but he proved us wrong.  It was fascinating to see all the excitement around the country..I have never seen that in an election before.  I guess it was similar to when Kennedy was elected.  I had to smile when I saw how happy many people were. at the rallies..especially African Americans...this was their moment.  One man was interviewed on the streets of Harlem and he was crying as he held his son.  "I can now say to my son truthfully that you can be anything you want to be."  That was a powerful statement.

I think the gathering at Grant Park in Chicago was a bit over the top, but it shows the support Obama has and how we has moved this country with his message of Hope and Change.  He has brought Hope to many people.  There was a record number of voters as people stood in line for hours.  That was awesome to see.  People brought their kids to vote with them and then kept them up to see history.  His speech last night was very powerful, but they are just words.  Now comes the tough times.  Now we see what he is made of.

The Change part of Obama's campaign has always troubled me.  How is he bringing change?  He spent more money on his campaign than anyone ever has...he out spent McCain 3 to 1.  That is not change..that is more of the same...as Biden likes to say.  How do you justify spending more than 1 BILLION dollars on a campaign when you say you are for the middle class that is struggling to buy groceries and pay their mortgage.  In addition, he selected Biden....he has been in the Senate for 36 years.  He is a Good Ole Boy that has helped create this mess...that is not change...that is more of the same.  He should have selected an up and comer like himself if he really wanted to show he was about Change.  Politics is a rich man's game and now we will see what Barack will do.  It was brought up last night...what will Obama do as President?  Will he be the man of change or will he be sucked into the mainstream politics and it will be status quo?  If history has taught us on thing, politics is powerful and corrupt and one man can't change it.  I hope he can, but I doubt it.

Finally, the liberal media got their man.  The power of media is very persuasive and they have been campaigning for Obama for a year now.  Watching the Today show this morning was exciting, but at the same time it was so biased that they covered the event like they thought everyone was happy with the outcome just because they were.  Nearly 50% of the voters did not agree...this Nation is divided and there are many angry people today.  The media forgets about that.  This was a great victory for Obama, but it was not a landslide victory.  Many are scared and concerned about this country's future.  Hopefully Obama will ease their fears, but it will be a tough road.

Matt Lauer said it best this morning.  "This country and especially the media loves to build people up, but once they reach the top and become a star, the gears shift and we try to destroy them."  Many Americans and most of the media are happy today, but how long until they turn...you know they will.  What else will they talk about?  The election is over...now it is time to dig up a juicy scandal and tarnish Obama's name.  Many of you will be angry to read that, but you know it is true.  It is how this country works.  President Bush Sr was a hero after the first Iraq War...his re-election was in the bag, who would dare even try to run against him,  then things changed and his popularity plummeted. I hope it stops here, but it won't...just give it some time.  Politics have proven one thing over the years...they always preach change, but it never happens.

Congratulations again to President Elect Obama.  You have been elected to change this country because you said you could...now go do it...I wish you all the luck.  You have been put on a very high pedestal and it will wobble at times...I just hope you don't fall off for this Country's sake.
