Last Winter Was One for the Ages

By Brian Gotter

Like it or not, we are now in snow season, but we can still experience beautiful weather…and we will this week with highs in the 60s today and tomorrow. However, Milwaukee and all of SE Wisconsin picked up a trace of snow last Monday and now that we are in November we can also expect scattered snow showers. The average November snowfall is 3.6”. Last November, Milwaukee had 1.3” of snow that fell on November 21, the day before Thanksgiving. It was a white Thanksgiving last year.

According to the National Weather Service, Milwaukee averages about 8 snowfalls of 2” or more per season and about 2 snowfalls of 6” or more per season. Last winter, SE Wisconsin was buried by 19 winter storms that produced at least 6” of snow. …it was definitely one for the ages. Nine of those storms dumped more than 12” of snow and 3 storms produced more than 18”!

No snow the next few days as we will be sunny and mild and there is no weather excuse to not get out and vote tomorrow. However, we are watching a powerful storm system that could bring us back to reality by the end of the week with colder temperatures, rain and strong winds.

In addition, daylight saving time ended yesterday and tonight’s sunset is 4:41pm..it will be dark by 5pm…I am full of good news today.
