The Good, The Bad, The Ugly...and Bliss

By Brian Gotter

What a weekend for just relaxing inside the house.  We have not had a rainy weekend in months and it allowed me to chill out and also to get things down inside the house that I have been putting off during the nice summer  months.

I did go golfing Saturday morning for a TMJ4 guys day.  Sixteen of us signed up about a month ago and as the forecast unfolded last week and it looked soggy Saturday morning, many did not want to go.  I woke up early and drove out to Silver Spring Country Club.  I was sleepy and was wondering what was I doing.  I got to the golf course and there were 7 guys and four of us decided to be men and brave the rain.  To be honest, Vince Vitrano bullied me into golfing...kidding.  We had a good time, but the weather was bad.  It poured at times and then let up....it even stopped for almost one hole.  It was warm and muggy so rain gear made it uncomfortable and the shoes and socks were soaked.  The weather and the golf game were bad, but it was still a good time.  We stopped after 9 holes and a few of the guys who opted not to golf were still in the clubhouse playing cards.

The rest of Saturday was relaxing and very good.  We just sat on the couch and watched movies until our friends came over for dinner.  It was the friends Ali stayed at for her slumber party Monday Night, so Ali and her friend Winnie were having a blast running around the house.

Besides going over to our neighbors to watch the first half of the Packer game before Ali's nap on Sunday, we never left the house.  It was a chilly rainy day from remnants of Ike...perfect lazy football day.  Ali slept from 2 to 5 while Tina and I relaxed on the couch and watched the Packers win and the Vikings choke another game away.  Rodgers looked better than good..he is proving to everyone what the Packers and what I hoped would happen.  He is solid.  Unfortunately the Packers (players and coaches) got a little lazy and let the Lions back into the game...the was bad.  You could just feel the momentum turning to the Lions...it got really ugly for about 5 minutes and then the Packers woke up and put the Lions away.  While they did let up, I was impressed to see the youngest team in football did not roll over...they were able to turn it back on and get the win.  They will not be able to do that this Sunday against the Cowboys...we need 4 solid quarters.

The bliss is that all my football teams won this weekend and the teams I needed to lose...lost.  A clean sweep.  The Badgers beat Fresno State in a nail biter and are now ranked #8 in the nation.  My Oklahoma Sooners rolled over Washington 55-14 and are now #2 in the nation and even #1 in a few polls.  Yes!!!!!!   Notre Dame beat Michigan, my Packers won and to top it all off, the Bears lost and the Vikings gave the game away to the Colts....Love it!!!!  The only disappoint was Tina's Jacksonville Jaguars...they lost again and after many picked them to go the Super Bowl, they are now 0-2.

The Ugly this weekend were the Brewers.  While my football teams had a clean sweep, the Brewers were swept by the Phillies and have now given up the Wild Card spot in the playoffs.  Just a few weeks ago the Wild Card was locked up and theirs...now they have lost 11 of 14 and look lost.  My prediction, they do not make the playoffs.  I don't know if I even want them to...if they somehow find a way to get in, they will be humiliated in the Divisional Series...unless something magical happens in the next few days.

I hope all of you had a great weekend as well.
